A Safari in South Africa is always breath taking

By Shiva Rao

Annually many visitors from all over the world go to South Africa on safari. Its ecosystems are enormously varied and its wildlife is among the most unique on the continent. If you're going on a safari in South Africa you can be sure of amazing experiences, from verdant beach forests to the isolation of the desert. Most safaris focus on the diversity of both scenery and culture that make this county so special. A great infrastructure, splendid landscapes and a stable post apartheid environment all ensure that your safari there will be successful.

The best time for a South Africa safari is between April and September. Then the wildlife is concentrated around rivers, lakes and waterholes. October to March is greener because of the rains. It's Summer then in this part of the African continent. You'll see more birds in this season. Birds you may spot are: eagles, vultures, rollers, owls, bustards, shrikes, bee-eaters and many more. People on a South Africa safari often visit the famous Kruger National Park. Other destinations are: Kwa Zulu Natal, Madikwe and Waterberg.

A selection of wildlife you may encounter on your South African safari: cheetah, leopard, wild dog, elephant, lion, zebra, buffalo, giraffe, baboon, hippo, rhino, kudu, impala, wildbeest, klipspringer, antelopes, waterbuck, steenbok, reebok, aardvark, aardwolf, caracal, serval, mongoose, duiker, civet and suni.

To be comfortable on your safari, it's recommendable to do some thinking about your clothing. Clothing should be layered and of a neutral color. Khaki, green or olive drab are the best colors to wear. Comfortable boots or walking shoes are very important. Make sure they are well worn prior to your arrival as blisters can ruin your trip. You should bring at least one warm jacket for the cold morning and you will also need a hat for protection from the sun. As it gets cool in the evenings, a sweat suit or jeans and a sweater or sweatshirt are good choices.
